Biography

Jaime Whitt obtained her undergraduate degree in English from the University of Kansas in 2000 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2015. Jaime wrote her Honors Undergrad thesis on Ownership in Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, and Tar Baby. Dr. Maryemma Graham was a faculty reader for Jaime’s thesis and invited her to join HBW the following year as it prepared to sponsor and host the 2001 Langston Hughes Symposium. Jaime jumped at the opportunity to work with Dr. Graham and never looked back! She worked as a staff member and research assistant for HBW during both her undergrad years and during law school, assisting on projects including the Langston Hughes Symposium; Language Matters I and Language Matters II (Reading and Teaching Toni Morrison) with the Toni Morrison Society; and Don’t Deny My Voice: Reading and Teaching African American Poetry.
